I was born in Christianity, believing in Jesus and loving him is a part of my culture. I took Jesus as my teacher, a guiding force. My faith in and love has always helped me to discriminate better.

While growing up in California, many questions puzzled me. Why would any God say, one religion is better than the other? Why would God approve of killing innocent creatures in the name of food? Why would God like to hear a loud display? Why do popes and priests have to be men only?

I decided to find the truth. After death, no one carries the body, it is the spirit, consciousness that travels further. Maybe if I start from this point, it might lead me to the truth. I got interested in spirituality.

Every Google search leads me to one place – India, the hub of spirituality. I decided to visit. My first visit to India, the moment I landed, something different was there in the air, the smell of the land. I could experience it because of a sudden contrast.

I traveled to Banaras, Rishikesh, and South India. The people were so relaxed, sitting in the tea shop, sipping the tea slowly as if they had all the time in the world. No books, no laptop, no phone. They do not care about a fig to know the outer world. They seemed to be fully satisfied with the tea in their hand. Simple and innocent talking- I was fascinated by it. I felt everything around me was happening in slow motion, a prominent experience of steadiness inside me.

I read many holy books and found a kind of manipulation at some level – Gods are projected superior to the Goddesses – the Goddess bowing to Gods and serving them. How is it even possible that God does not believe in equality?

I decided to dig further. I studied Upanishads and Vedas for 5 years. I found it very interesting and correctly leading me. All the studies directed me to go inside, to find the truth. I took up mediation practice very sincerely, I was eager. After 15 years of sincere mediation practice, I understood the principle of Prakriti and Purusha.

In every living being, there is something constant that observes us all the time, whatever we do and think, without interfering in it, even in sleep and at different levels of consciousness, we might not be aware of it. This is called Purusha; in simple words – consciousness.

Prakriti is our ever-changing nature, physical body, and mind. We grow from babies into adults, and our minds develop. Without Prakriti, development would not be possible, physically and mentally. These two elements, Purusha and Prakriti, are not a substitution for each other. Both are equally important and needed for our existence.

Purusha and Prakriti are just the names given to make us understand our inner nature. In religion, they might have been misinterpreted as men and women. To understand correctly, let us call it motion and constant for a while.

Motion accelerates evolution. Resistance is also motion, to make us slow down and to feel the presence of the constant, also to make the motion even stronger.

The purpose of Prakriti is only to make us grow further, with no part of us being left out. When we have a complete understanding of it, we live in harmony. Then the mind (Prakriti) takes us to the highest.

Harmony does not mean the absence of conflict. Everyone wants to dominate others, at home, at the job, in the religion, between countries. Each one thinks that they are more superior to the others, while they project the opposite; humble and friendly.

At first, there is a conflict, and then not accepting it is another conflict. Behaving differently is the third conflict. Imagine the damage we are doing to ourselves.

The mind tries to manipulate while Purusha knows the truth; Purusha and Prakriti are in opposition, and the conflict continues.

As we meditate, we get connected with Purusha – the observant and the mind (Prakriti) accept the inner reality that there is a conflict. Now both are in harmony, saying and experiencing and doing the same thing- observing.

Observation brings peace of mind, and more peace brings more observation.
